10 charged over illegal lottery

TEN people were yesterday charged for their involvement in an illegal lottery syndicate that appeared to have operated from the western part of Singapore.

One of them, Soh Cheng Yong, 32, is accused of allowing his Jurong West flat to be used as a gaming house from January 2002 to Jan 10 this year.

One of them, Soh Cheng Yong, 32, is accused of allowing his Jurong West flat to be used as a gaming house from January 2002 to Jan 10 this year.

Four women - Teo Li Choo, 33; Adel Soh, 34; Lim Yim Peng, 43; Yoo Lian Wan, 52 - were accused of helping run the lottery there.

Five others - two women and three men - were also charged in a magistrate's court with helping to run the lottery from five other flats, four in Jurong and one in Bukit Panjang.

They are: Lim Sang Hong, 54; Ng Khiam Hoi, 51; Tan Hai Hong, 34; Ong Hong Guan, 45, and Ng Chiap It, 33.

The 10 were arrested in a raid on Saturday. They will appear in court again on Feb 9.
