Charles Ingram, the former Army Major convicted of fraud after winning ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’, came to Oxford on Wednesday to protest his innocence and give an account of his “experience of the judicial system”.
Ingram and ex-lecturer Tecwen Wittock were found guilty of using a coded coughing system to guide him through answers to the top prize. Ingram wanted to dispel his “thick” media image and the “Lady Macbeth” caricature of his wife.
Ingram faces a £400,000 debt and is on medication for anxiety and depression. He said, “We’ve children to feed and we have to get some money”.
