According to a survey conducted by ICM Research Ltd. for the Guardian, England is a nation of gamblers. ICM interviewed 1,001 adults between 15 and 17 August. 80% percent of all respondents had been engaged in some form of gambling at least once during the past year.
65% of all respondents participated in a lottery, 38% of all respondents participated in a raffle, and 17% participated in horse betting.
Only 2% of all respondents admitted to have gambled online during the past year, despite increased access to the Internet. This is even less than the 6% of the 1001 respondents that participated in football pools.
