Australian Gaming Machine Manufacturers’ Association (AGMMA) 04.06.2003

AGMMA was formed in 1990 by the major Australian gaming machine manufacturers. Current members include Ainsworth Game Technology, Aristocrat Technologies, Global Gaming Industries, International Game Technology (IGT), Konami Gaming, Pacific Gaming and Stargames Corporation. Associate members include Acres Gaming, Bytecraft Systems, eBet Limited, Hagemeyer (Soanar), JCM American, MDS Turbo, Mikohn Gaming, TAB Limited and TCS Aces.

AGMMA's mission is to support the Gaming Industry's future.

AGMMA devotes a major effort to assisting and providing input to various industry bodies and their respective regulators - and to providing such input itself where appropriate.

AGMMA hosts the annual Australasian Gaming Expo (AGE), located in Sydney, Australia. Around 200 companies exhibit the latest in gaming-related products and technology, occupying 20,000 square metres (over 215,000 square feet) of exhibition space. Around 12,000 visitors attend AGE each year.

AGMMA is also co-hosting the inaugural New Zealand Gaming Expo in Christchurch, 20-22 March 2004.

AGMMA developed the "Player Information Booklet", which sets out in clear and unambiguous terms the information that consumers need to make informed decisions about playing Australian gaming machines. Among other publications, AGMMA also developed the booklet "Gaming Machines - Do You Know the Whole Story?" which has proven an invaluable source for many gaming jurisdictions around the world. Both these publications are available at no cost fromAGMMA's website.

Australian Gaming Machine Manufacturers’ Association (AGMMA) Observations Paper
Submitted to
Productivity Commission Inquiry into
AUSTRALIA’S GAMBLING INDUSTRIES

November, 1998

The Australian Gaming Machine Manufacturers’ Association (AGMMA) is a non-profit organisation whose membership is:
    Aristocrat Leisure Industries Ltd

    I.G.T. (Australia) Pty Limited

    Konami Australia Pty Ltd

    Milwell Pty Ltd

    Pacific Gaming Pty Ltd

Precise Craft Pty Ltd (Trading as Vidco)

    Video Lottery Consultants Inc

All members hold licences or approvals to manufacture and supply gaming machines throughout the various Australian jurisdictions.
In total, the members supply over 98% of all gaming machines to licensed venues in Australia. Additionally, they supply the majority of gaming machine monitoring systems used in the Country.
This paper comprises a number of observations specific to gaming machines rather than a listed set of responses to the terms of reference. They are posited in the hope that they may be of use to the wider task for which the Commission has carriage. In many respects the terms of reference require responses from the disciplines of psychology, sociology and economics. The Association claims no expertise or wisdom in these, and happily defers to those who do.

Law enforcement must be a priority as state's slots parlors become reality 22.07.2004

When Pennsylvania's 14 slot machine parlors eventually open, no issue is going to be more important to the citizens of this state than law enforcement. The Associated Press
To Neil Murray, the issue is simple - slot machines, the classic one-armed bandits that have been the backbone of casinos in Nevada, New Jersey, Connecticut and elsewhere, are indistinguishable from VLTs. To identify differences is a "classic exercise" in semantics, Murray said.
The confusion between VLTs and slot machines arises as manufacturers intentionally give VLTs the look and feel of slot machines.

Certain slot machines have more than one "pay line", which allows players to play multiple coins to increase their odds of winning on a pull. For example, a three line machine would have a center, top and bottom payout line for symbols to line up on. By wagering three coins to play all three lines as opposed to one, a player would win on any one of the three lines if the symbols lined up according to the pay chart.

Charles Fey invented the first slot machine way back in 1895. He went on to perfect his initial innovation in 1907, when he teamed with Mills Novelty Company who manufactured the "Mills Liberty Bell." The Liberty Bell featured a cast iron case and originally had cast iron feet with toes. In later models the toes were scrapped and replaced with ornate decorated feet.
