Roulette Strategy. Set Goals, Bet Smart, Get Even 05.12.2002

The game of roulette is both simple and complex. On one hand, it is simply a game of betting on which number will be the next to come up on a spinning wheel. On the other hand, it is a game that puzzles and entices people to find secrets that will allow them to have a distinct advantage.

The shear number of choices one has in placing a bet can delude one into thinking that they can find some combination of bets that are better than another. On a typical roulette table, there are over 160 bet locations, which allow you to cover from 1 to 18 numbers with a single bet.

This complexity is also heightened by the mystery of chance. People tend to think that previous spins can affect the outcome of future spins. For instance, if a Red number hasn’t come up in the last 19 spins, “it is bound to come up”. People dutifully record previous spins looking for patterns to determine their next play. The fact is every spin is unique. Nothing that happened in the past can determine the outcome of a future spin.

Unlike some casino games (blackjack and poker, for instance), the outcome of Roulette is not determined by a choice that the player makes during the game. Unless you are psychic, your playing of Roulette will be completely subservient to Lady Luck. Roulette is a game purely driven by chance. However, the choices you make in the amount of your bets and the length of time you play can influence your results. Without a strategy, you will have no direction to your play. Nor will you know when it is appropriate to stop playing.

Wondering why your roulette strategy doesn't work? Find out why with Roulette Revenge!

Do Roulette Strategies Work?

A gambling strategy is a series of rules and guidelines you use to help you in making decisions on how to proceed with play during a session. A session, for our purposes, is a series of spins that you begin with a predetermined bank amount and ends when you have achieved a specific goal.

There is a lot of debate as to whether strategies will actually do you any good at all. Statisticians will argue till they are blue in the face that casino games favor the house and in the long run there is no strategy that can help you overcome that reality. In our Roulette Introduction and Rules, we discussed this advantage. But casinos have other tools they employ to give them an even further advantage. For instance, in casino gaming, there is no beginning or end to a “game”. If you have unlimited money, you can play forever. And that is what the casino wants you to do, because in the long run the odds will favor them.

A gambling strategy can help you play smart. A strategy can change your attitude about playing. A strategy can take you from being a passive victim to an active participant (playing with a vengeance, so to speak).

If you need proof that a strategy can make a difference, compare the “No Goals, No System” strategy with the “Pyramid” strategy supplied with the default strategies in your Roulette Revenge strategy list.

You will see that without rules governing your course of action during the game, there is only one outcome. The session will continue until all your money is gone – or you get bored or you have to go to the bathroom.

Strategies set guidelines for your course of action during a session so that you can determine when your session is done by your standards, not the casinos. One of the things you will notice in the “No Goals” strategy mentioned earlier is that quite a few of the sessions will show a profit at some point before they meet their demise. Most casual gamblers experience this as well, quite simply because they had no guidelines on how to protect their winnings.

The key is determining whether a strategy has any merit before you attempt to use it in a casino. That's where Roulette Revenge comes in. We provide the tools you need to rapid fire test your strategy, and then analyze it to determine whether it really works or you were just "lucky". Developing Your Own Roulette Strategy

In any kind of gambling strategy there are two important requirements:

    * Having a system for determining the value of bets to be placed * Having a system for managing the money you wager and the money you win.
In the next two sections we will discuss Roulette Betting Systems and Roulette Money Management.

If you bet a number on the roulette wheel and the ball lands on the number you bet on, the true mathematical odds would pay you 37 to 1 since there are 38 possible places the ball could have landed. But in the casino you will only be paid 35-1, which amounts to a 5.26 advantage for the house, a "built in" edge that guarantees them a profit over the long run.

Roulette is the quintessential game of chance with one objective: Guess which number will be the next to come up. The Roulette Table consists of a spinning wheel with numbered slots, a small white ball and a betting layout that allows bets to be placed on one or more numbers at a time. The wheel is spun in one direction and the ball is propelled around the outer edge of the wheel in the opposite direction.

Roulette history 05.12.2002
Maurice Blanchard Gamble Tribune
Roulette history is hard to come by because the origin of roulette is lost, and there was likely some form of a wheel based game going back almost as far as the origin of the wheel itself. There are stories that the game was invented in China and brought to Europe by traders who were trading with the Chinese.
