Among Georgia's Mega Millions players, no ticket matched five numbers and not the Mega Ball. The three tickets matching four numbers and the Mega Ball number are worth $5,000 each, and the 101 tickets matching four numbers and not the Mega Ball are worth $150 apiece. The numbers drawn were 1-17-19-32-42; the Mega Ball was 33.

Mega Money yields small profits:

No ticket matched all four numbers and the MegaBall in Tuesday's Mega Money drawing of the Florida Lottery. The numbers drawn were 11-23-28-30 and the MegaBall number 26. Nineteen tickets matched four of the numbers and are worth $786 apiece, and 67 tickets matched three numbers and the MegaBall, winning $520 apiece.

Louisiana. Three top prizes go untouched

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- The top prizes in three major lottery games went untouched Wednesday night, state lottery officials said.

Powerball's jackpot goes from $26.3 million to an estimated $33 million for Saturday night's drawing. Lotto's top prize goes from $525,000 to an estimated $600,000 for Saturday night.

There was one Powerball consolation ticket worth $5,000 sold in Louisiana. That ticket matched four of five numbers, plus the Powerball. There were 18 Lotto consolation tickets matching five of six numbers, worth $1,592 each.

There was one consolation Cash Quest ticket worth $3,000.

The Powerball numbers were 18-22-26-31-49, plus Powerball 28.

The Lotto numbers were 1-2-6-12-13-40.

The Cash Quest numbers were 10-44-46-49.

The Texas Lottery drew numbers for an almost $50 million Lotto Texas jackpot. That's just chump change compared to what Texas Lottery officials have in mind.

Wednesday night's Lotto Texas jackpot is the biggest in the nation.

"We've been really busy. I haven't had the chance to do the things I normally do. Every time I leave the counter, someone else is walking up," Convenience Store Clerk Toni Deshoutel said.

It's even got the skeptics shelling out for their shot at a fortune.

Folks with the Texas Lottery say this week's lotto fever is proof recent changes to the system are working.

"We are having more winners, and the jackpot level's getting up there. After you get above $20 million the enthusiasm level is high," Texas Lottery Commission Executive Director Reagan Greer said.

How high? Ticket sales Wednesday were averaging a half million an hour with an estimated $2,000 to $3,000 in revenue every three seconds.

"They've been buying $50, $100. One person bought $200 worth of lottery tickets," Deshoutel said.

If $47 million isn't enough to get you to spend a buck or two, how about $300 million? That's what could be at stake as Texas moves forward with plans to enter a multi-state lottery like Powerball.

Mega Millions is the other big game being considered, but lottery-lovers have to wait until August 5 for the final decision.

"We are going to recommend that the state of Texas move forward and get into a multi-jurisdictional game. I can tell you that. Certainly from a staff perspective we're excited about the opportunity to bring another mix into our fold of more opportunities to win high jackpots," Greer said.

Lottery officials say the key to choosing a multi-state game is figuring out how it will impact the state's existing games.

Wednesday's winning numbers are 43, 22, 17, 24, 11 and 6.

Position: State should resist temptation to expand legal gambling 27.08.2004
Indiana's foray into state-sanctioned gambling began with the seemingly innocent creation of a lottery 15 years ago. Four years later, the General Assembly approved a bill legalizing the first riverboat casinos.

More boats would follow. So would longer hours for the casinos to stay open. Then came dockside gambling. With each step, Indiana raised a little more revenue and made gambling a little more mainstream.
